Streetart is a very accesible branch of contemporary art. It often just hits you by surprise when wandering around. That is probably why i like it so much: a  combination of getting lost in a city and surprises. And very often quite a color explosion.

I ❤️ STREETART.

Streetart got a proper name at some point, to get rid of the bad image it had,  linked with illegal graffiti and tagging. To me it’s just all the art you find in the street, whether you call it urban art, street art, murals,… .  As with any from of art, rises the question of what makes it art? I’m not going into that, i got a bit disgusted about these kind of discussions while in art school. Who’s to say if something is art? But above all: what does it matter? In this gallery i show you the pieces that grabbed me, made me smile or surprised me by their wit, location or pure beauty. I have a natural penchant for esthetically pleasing things, so that sets the tone of the gallery too.

ps: I have a problem with tags, because i can’t read most of them, so you won’t see a lot of them around. Do you know Mathieu Tremblin? He translates tags and writes the translation over it in helvetica: my kind of guy. There’s a nice article about his tag cloud work here.

If you care to know more, i find Street Art Today to be a really good book, but there’s tons out there.
